This working paper contains an overview of thematic fields covered by the existing statistics, a list of available statistical sources including basic information on publisher, dimension (national, international), availability (public, restricted, promoted or not) data coverage (parameters, area, time span), format (printed material, soft file, numerical, graphical or both etc.), language, updating frequency, price. Benchmarks for required statistics are defined and compared with the currently available IWT statistics. Recommendations for improvements and harmonisation are given.
